Singular and plural nouns
એકવચન અને બહુવચન નામ

⦁ Singular એટલે એકવચન ( ફક્ત એક જ ) અને Plural એટલે બહુવચન ( એક કરતાં વધારે ) 

Regular nouns (નિયમિત નામ)

⦁ Most singular nouns form the plural by adding -s.
⦁ મોટા ભાગ ના એકવચન નામ ની પાછળ 's' ઉમેરવાથી  તે બહુવચન નામ બને છે.

⦁ A singular noun ending in s, x, z, ch, sh makes the plural by adding-es.
⦁ એવા એકવચન નામ કે જેના અંત માં S, X, Z, CH, SH આવતા હોય તો તે નામ ના અંતે 'es' ઉમેરવાથી બહુવચન નામ બને છે.

⦁ A singular noun ending in a consonant and then y makes the plural by dropping the y and adding-ies.
⦁ એવું એકવચન નામ કે જેના અંત માં  'Y' હોય અને 'y' ની પહેલા આવતો અક્ષર વ્યંજન હોય તો 'y' નો 'i' કરી ને 'es' ઉમેરવાથી બહુવચન બને છે.

⦁ If the singular noun ends in -y and the letter before the -y is a vowel, simply add an -s to make it plural.
⦁ એવું એકવચન નામ કે જેના અંત માં  'Y' હોય અને 'y' ની પહેલા આવતો અક્ષર સ્વર હોય તો માત્ર 's' ઉમેરવાથી બહુવચન બને છે.

boy – boys
toy - toys

⦁ If the noun ends with ‑f or ‑fe, the f is often changed to ‑ve before adding the -s to form the plural version.
⦁ જો કોઈ નામ ની અંતે 'f' કે 'fe' આવતો હોય તો 'f' અને 'fe' ને બદલે 'v' મૂકીને 'es' ઉમેરવાથી  બહુવચન નામ બને છે .

 wife – wives
wolf – wolves
leaf - leaves
knife- knives
life- lives
half- halves
elf-elves
loaf-loaves


Exceptions:
roof – roofs
belief – beliefs
chef – chefs
chief – chiefs

⦁ In some cases, singular nouns ending in -s or -z, require that you double the -s or -z prior to adding the -es for pluralization.
⦁ ઘણા નામ ની અંતે જ્યારે 'z' કે 's' આવે છે ત્યારે તે અક્ષરો ને બેવડાવી ને 'es' ઉમેરવાથી  બહુવચન નામ બને છે.

Examples :
fez – fezzes
gas –gasses

⦁ If the singular noun ends in ‑o, add ‑es to make it plural.
⦁ જો નામ ના અંતે 'o' આવતો હોય તો 'es' ઉમેરવાથી બહુવચન બને છે.

potato – potatoes
tomato – tomatoes

Exceptions:

photo – photos
piano – pianos
halo – halos

Irregular nouns (અનિયમિત નામ)

⦁ Some nouns have the same form in the singular and the plural.
⦁ ઘણા એવા નામ પણ છે કે જેના એકવચાન અને બહુવચન નામ એક સરખા જ થાય છે.

⦁ There are some irregular noun plurals. The most common ones are listed below.
